The object that becomes a subject

Since the 14th century, people have been accustomed to seeing frames as mere accessories to art. Structures to surround and support paintings: simple containers. Now, suddenly, an artist transforms the container into content. The object becomes the subject. By framing themselves, Daniele Cima's ‘frames’ lose their limited (and delimited) function, to become autonomous and fully realised works of art: finally the frame has become the picture. They no longer contain images, they are themselves images. They are no longer functional, they become completely useless, if art is considered useless.
